seed mixtures for small pet birds such as budgies contain abtou 50 percent
of canary seeds (Phalaris canariensis). These
seeds are about three millimeres long and their hull is shiny light brown.
Dark brown are the seeds that are underneath the hulls. Since these hulls
are not too tight, birds can easily peel them off. Therefore many birds
prefer canary seeds while they're feeding their chicks. Bird breeders should
pay attention since birds who mainly feed on canary seeds could suffer a
lack of nutrients due to an unbalanced diet.
