In Central Europe, Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) flowers from May to October. Ripe seeds can be found in nature from June to November. Most budgies and other small pet birds prefer half ripe seeds, so you should look for completely green plants. The stems, see photo below, is about 30 to 60 cm (approx. 1-2 ft) long. Perennial ryegrass grows on meadows and along paths that lead through green areas. This grass species is ideal for deep-freezing, so you can store it like this and offer it to your birds during winter.
